About

Ale Ruiz Tostado is a multidisciplinary, self-taught artist, primarily painting in acrylic and oil. In addition to growing up in the border region of San Diego, exploring vibrant color palettes and techniques through culturally significant themes like Day of the Dead and Milagros have added another layer of proximity to her familiar roots. Maintaining a strong connection to Mexican roots is something that has always been instilled in her, and continues to be of great importance. Along with growing up in a well-balanced blend of Mexican-American, being an artist has allowed Ale to create not only colorful artworks, but a unique relationship with her culture and traditions.

In more recent work, Ale has become more personal by channeling her own childhood memories, mirroring her experiences as a Chicana artist. She achieves in expressing these themes through anatomical hearts with home interiors and/or nostalgic landscapes and sceneries, frequently using border region landscapes of San Diego/Tijuana.
